"It's time for bed, my lady." Sebastian tells me. His British accent especially makes his voice a unique one.

It is a rare contract.

When I turned thirteen, I received a butler in place of the customary maidservant to a female, such as I. The reason is unknown. My family is dead. I want revenge. And Sebastian is the closest person to me.

I nod my head and let him to change me into my nightgown. Many females wouldn't allow a servant of the opposite sex to assist her. I don't mind. Having someone is better than no one at all. I enjoy having Sebastian as my only company. An interesting character he is.

He fastens the last button of my dress and asks me to lay down. I do so, Sebastian pulling the covers to my chin. He takes his candle, saying "Good night," and turns on his heel to head out.

"Sebastian?" I call quietly, "Stay with me. Until I fall asleep."

He simply smiles, putting the dimly lit candle back on it's place upon the night table.

"Yes, my lady." He answers, a formal bow following. He places a chair by my bedside and takes a seat. "You almost remind me of my former master."

"No. Come here." I correct him while rolling over to create space. I pat the spot next to me.

"Oh? Are you sure?" He inquires in a lively matter. Amusement seems to spark his chestnut eyes. Is it false interest? That butler is an impossible one to read. I smile, cunningly to match his, and nod again. He lays beside me- on top of the blankets.

"Sebastian?"

"Yes?"

"Make me Earl Grey in the morning, please."

"Why certainly. Because that is your favorite, now isn't it?"

"You know me well. Better than anyone."

I am testing my trust with Sebastian, because not one has gained it. Should I leave my trust to this man? We lay there motionless. The entire mansion is silent. And yet I feel tired.

"... Sebastian?"

"Mmm?"

"What was your master like? The one before me. Wasn't he a boy my age?"

Sebastian glances away, sighs quietly, and makes eye contact with me. "Ciel Phantomhive was his name."

"Did you like Ciel?"

He laughs softly before replying, "I did, yes."

"What did he look like? Was he cute?"

"Don't jump to conclusions so quickly, milady. He once had a fiance. And he was a bit taller than you. Dark haired. An eye patch covering his left eye." Sebastian explains.

"I bet Ciel had one of these, and that's why he wore an eye patch!" I exclaim, pointing to my right eye, were a pentagram was branded. I too wear an eye patch everyday.

"Indeed."

"Do you like me?"

"You are by far my first lady. So, an interesting change. And also, the only one I've ever heard to say 'please.'"

I don't know what to think of Sebastian. I can tell has a infernal side to himself. But he always comforted me somehow. Everything from his smell, to his warmth, to his voice. He gave me a feeling of protection. He always has my back. But then again... it's all part of the rare contract.

* * * * *

Sebastian reaches his gloved hand out and begins to stroke my hair. It feels calming. My consciousness starts to drift away. I almost forget he's there. The feeling of long, slender fingers pulling through the strands of my tresses, lightly rubbing my scalp. The most loving comforting gesture I've received in years.

I dare to gaze into his eyes. A diabolic looks stares back at me. I did a double take. A hint of love remains instead. I want to wipe that smirk off his face. But at the moment... a gentle smile makes him look... angelic.

"Sebastian?"

He stops touching my hair.

"Are you going to take my soul?"

"Not just yet. There's still time..."

I close my eyes. Enough for the night.

I feel his weight lifting from my bed. The springs groan in response.

I hear his footsteps trailing away. It becomes dark.

Then the door shuts.

And I'm left alone.

- the end ♥
